Artistic Director

Elisabetta Bucciarelli

Elisabetta Bucciarelli, founder and artistic director of Sound Art 23 is one of the most well-known and respected professionals within the Italian dubbing and post-production industry. As well as being the company’s artistic director, Elisabetta continues her activity as dubbing director and script adaptor.
After reading for a degree in Economics, Elisabetta Bucciarelli trained as an actor at the National Drama Academy (Silvio D’Amico) in Rome and went on to work ten years as an actress in theatre, film and television, before dedicating herself fully to her career in dubbing, post-production and, most recently, as a lecturer at the University of Udine. She first started to work with CDL as a voice-over artist in 1976 and had her debut as a dubbing director in 1980 with Claude Pinoteau’s cult movie La Boum, starring Sophie Marceau.
In the past years working for CDL, Elisabetta wrote the Italian screen adaptations and directed the dubbing of over 400 films. She worked personally on the Italian versions of the most prestigious films by directors such as Krzsystof Kieslowski, Derek Jarman, Wim Wenders, Yhang Zimou, Takeshi Kitano, Mike Leigh, Ken Loach, Sofia Coppola, Costa Gavras, Claude Chabrol, John Landis, Abbas Kiarostami and many others. She has also worked closely with renowned award-winning directors such as Ermanno Olmi, Gabriele Salvatores, Silvio Soldini.
In 1994 CDL’s acquisition of the central Rome recording studio known as “Studio 23” was completed, leading to the foundation of Sound Art 23, of which Elisabetta became the mastermind and artistic director. The dubbing company thus had a technical facility enabling not only the recording of dubbing, but all the video and audio processes connected with film and television post-production.
Working closely within the audio sector in Sound Art 23, Elisabetta Bucciarelli further developed her interest in sound as an essential component of any audio-visual product. This strong interest lead Elisabetta to participate in the development of new technologies aimed at creating tools and software programmes designed to increase flexibility and creativity within the audio post-production sector.
